LABORATORIES

The Department of Industrial Engineering has education and research oriented laboratories, which are in world standards. Various licenced software packages, such as Arena, Matlab, Lindo, Gams, QS, Minitab, AutoCAD are used in these laboratories.

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Laboratory

CAD Laboratory comprises of 24 Pentium III 450 MHz computers, printers and a plotter. In this laboratory, IE students use AutoCAD© 2000 for their Computer-Aided Engineering Drawing course and MiniTab© for their probability and statistics courses.

Manufacturing Laboratory

Manufacturing Laboratory has been developed to provide the students with hands-on experience in their manufacturing course through various machine tools and auxiliary equipment. This laboratory is designed so that research projects relevant to industry can also be undertaken. Manufacturing Laboratory is equipped with a Knuth BFM 30 TS Milling Machine, a Knuth Basic Standard Turning Machine, a Knuth KB 16 Drilling Machine, a sheet-folding machine, an arm-operated sheet-shearing machine and a Knuth B 110 Sawing Machine. Other facilities include welding and grinding machines, and hand tools such as claws, taps, dies, various marking tools and cutters.

Workstation Laboratory

SUN Network – comprising of 2 Sun Ultra 10 workstations running Solaris 7.0, with high-resolution 21 inches color displays for 3D content creation. UNIX. Ethernet network, discs, printers, plotters and terminals.

Student Computer Laboratories

A student computer laboratory reserved for teaching comprises of 24 Pentium II 166 MHz computers and a laser printer connected via a network. Also, the “Hi-Class Multimedia Educational Network System” is used for instructor coordinated teaching. In another student laboratory, where there are 10 Pentium III 450 MHz computers, IE students use MiniTab© Release 12 software package for their statistics assignments. Another computer laboratory with 5 Celeron 266 MHz computers, is also reserved for student use.

Ergonomics Laboratory

Ergonomics Laboratory has been established in order to complement the Ergonomics course offered by the Department as well as to conduct research in this field. Ergonomics Laboratory is designed to provide students with the opportunity of carrying out ergonomic studies and making ergonomic designs based on ergonomic measurements. This laboratory also enables the students to measure physiological and anthropometric properties as well as working on environmental factors and evaluating them. The experience gained as a result of these measurements and evaluations sheds light into work design, workplace design, working environment design, and the design of control and display devices based on ergonomic issues.

Ergonomics Laboratory contains the following measurement devices and work-study instruments:

Anatomical and Physiological Measurement Devices : Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Printer, EKG(Cardiostat), Ergonomic Bicycle, Heart Rate Monitoring System, Reaction-time Measuring Instrument, Respirometer, Diagnostic Audiometer, Color Blinded Test, Anatomical and Physiological Charts

Anthropometric Measurement Devices : Large Anthropometer, Small Anthropometer, Skin-fold Caliper, Chest-depth Caliper, Physician Scale,  Ergonomic Chair

Work Environment Assessment Devices : Aerosol Monitor, Airflow meter, Digital Humidity Meter, Lux-meter System, Multi-gas Detector System, Radiometer, Sound Level Meter and Vibration System, Ultra-fine Particle Counter, Weather Station

Work-study Instruments : Manipulative Aptitude Test System, Purdue Pegboard Test System, and Single Event Stopwatch
