Introduction to production systems. Production planning and control in decision making. Forecasting. Aggregate production planning. Capacity planning. Materials requirement planning. Scheduling. Advanced techniques and approaches in modern production planning and control for designing manufacturing and service systems.

 

IE 751            Operations Research I                     (3-0)3

Methodology of operations research. Formulation of engineering problems in manufacturing and service organizations. Construction of linear models for real-life problems. Solution algorithms for linear programming. Duality and sensitivity analysis. Transportation, assignment, and transshipment problem.

 

 

IE 715            Engineering Economic Analysis     (3-0)3

Economic analysis for engineering and managerial decision-making. Cash flows, time value of money, basic time value models. Analyzing and estimating costs of engineering alternatives. Depreciation and after tax economic analysis. Effects of inflation. Public sector engineering decisions. Sensitivity analysis and decision making under risk and uncertainty.

Mathematical Development of Simplex Algorithm. Formulations of Various Problems as Linear Programming  Problems.  Duality Theory and Economic Interpretations. The Simplex, Big-M, Two-phase, Revised Simplex, the Dual Simplex Methods. Sensitivity and Post-Optimality Analysis. Special Forms of Linear Programming Problems and Their Solution Methods.

 

IE 503             System Analysis and Design                        (3-0)3

Introduction to systems approach, elementary tools and techniques based on the standards currently used for planning, analysis, design and construction of information systems, requirements engineering and modelling, structural modelling, system architecture and user interface design, documentation, testing and installation, traceability, project planning and management.

 

IE 504             System Simulation                            (3-0)3

Simulation methodology and its comparison with other techniques, discrete and continuous change simulation concepts. Modelling approaches in simulation and simulation model design. A survey of simulation languages with one language covered in detail. Selecting input distributions, random number/ random variate generation.Transient/steady-state response and terminating/nonterminating systems. Model experimentation and optimization, and statistical analysis of outputs.

The theory, computation, and application of deterministic models to represent industrial operations. Integer Programming. Mixed Integer Programming. Zero-One Programming. Knapsack Problems. Cutting Planes and Polyhedral Approach. Branch and Bound Methods. Lagrangean Relaxation. Heuristics. Decision Analysis and Games. Nonlinear Integer Programming. Applications to Various Areas.  

 

IE 508             Stochastic Programming                 (3-0)3

Review and basic foundations. Bernoulli Processes. Stochastic processes with independent increments, Wiener process and non-homogenous and compound poisson process. Discrete (classification of states, ergodic properties), random walks, branching processes and continuous time Markov processes, Kolmogorov's differential equations. Birth and death processes, applications to Markov queueing models. Non-Markov processes, renewal process, renewal reward process, alternating and regenerative processes, ergodic theorems. Semi-Markov processes. Applications in reliability, replacement and inventory problems, stationary problems and time series.

 

IE 509             Production Systems                          (3-0)3

Management and control of production function in organizational systems. Concepts of materials management, master production scheduling and production planning from different perspectives. Aggregate planning, lot sizing. Scheduling in manufacturing systems, scheduling in service systems, design and operation of scheduling systems. Material Requirements Planning (MRP) versus Just-in -Time (JIT) implementations. Optimized Production Technology (OPT). Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). Types of production settings. Inventory planning theory.  Computer support, system conversion and integration issues in manufacturing planning and control. Real world problems.

Basic review. Flow problems. Special purpose algorithms and advanced computational techniques for transportation and assignment problems. Theory, algorithms, and applications for maximum flow problems. Shortest paths. Minimum cost flows. Network simplex method. Multicommodity flow problems. Generalized networks. Network Model Applications for Production Planning Problems. Travelling salesperson problem. Real life problems.

 

IE 511             Heuristic Methods                            (3-0)3

The background of heuristic applications for search methods for optimization purposes.. Complex optimization problems and possible solving strategies using heuristic algorithms. Heuristic search methods. Simulated Annealing, general structure, algorithms application areas. Taboo Search general structure, application areas, algorithms,  application areas. Neural networks, general structure, algorithms, application areas . Other methodologies, discrete and continuous applications. Comparison with other optimization algorithms. Area applications.

IE 514             Decision Support Systems               (3-0)3

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, possible applications in industry. The need for decision support systems. Knowledge representation using formalized symbolic logic, uncertainties and inconsistencies, structured knowledge. Knowledge acquisition, organization and expert systems. Intelligent decision support systems: integration of DSS, DBMS and ES. Intelligent Sotware Agents. Fuzzy Logic for real world applications. Fuzzy membership functions, fuzzy decision making and classification.  Model formation and sensitivity analysis. Virtual Reality, Neural Networks. AI programming languages. Real World Problems.

 

IE 515             Multi-criteria Decision Making                   (3-0)3

The concept of Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). Multiple criteria and multiple purpose models. Decision space, objective space, convex sets, functions and test for convexity. Decision analysis and utility theory. Complex systems. Value of information, the concept of utility theory. Formulation of the general multiple criteria programming and optimization, classification of multiple criteria programming methods, decision making with discrete and continuous alternatives. Pareto Analysis. Goal Programming and applications. Interactive approaches for MCDM.  Electre approach. Applications related witjh production planning and other areas.

The analyses of operational, analytical and collaborative customer relationship management. Operational CRM, comparison with analytical and collaborative CRM. The importance of building and sustaining relationships with customers. Enhancing customer loyalty. Analyzing customer value and profitability.  Investigating the use of technologies for the effective management of relationships with individual customers. Managing the CRM process. IE 518             Advanced Engineering Economy               (3-0)3

Investment Projects and flow diagrams, interest and equivalence, the techniques of investment evaluation, investment evaluation in inflationist environment, deterministic models, linear programming models, discrete models, dynamic models, multi criteria optimization models, benefit theory, the techniques of investment evaluation under risk, decision trees, the comparison methods for the projects containing risk.

 

IE 519             Forecasting                                                   (3-0)3

General methodology. Forecasting methods versus Forecasting Systems; Dynamic Bayesian Modelling; Methodological Forecasting and Analysis. Polynomial, Seasonal, Harmonic and Regression Systems; Superpositioning. Variance Learning; Forecast Monitoring and applications. Time Series Analysis and Forecasting. Moving Averages; Estimation and Forecasting for ARMA models. ARIMA models. Seasonal and Non Seasonal Box-Jenkins Models; Winters’ Exponential Smoothing; Decomposition Models. Other possible methods. IE 520             Logistics and Inventory Systems                (3-0)3

Determination of needs and requirements for logistics within large-scale manufacturing and business environments. Logistics performance and cost control, and logistics concepts of product systems design.  Overview of procurement, material handling, physical distribution, after-sale services (product repair and maintenance). Packaging facilities, repair, maintenance, and automation in logistics. Concept of inventory and inventory costs. EOQ Model. Deterministic and stochastic models with fixed or variable reorder intervals and lead times. Multi-echelon models. Heuristic solutions to some inventory models.

 

IE 521             Advances in MIS                                         (3-0)3

Introduction to advanced topics in the management of information systems. Three major components of information systems: information systems technology, information systems development, and information systems management. Advances in information technology and the corresponding development techniques, emerging new business opportunities. The need for managing these applications effectively. The new application areas and the management approaches needed for successful applications.
