Goals:

This course is designed to provide the student with a working knowledge of the essential principles and concepts of management theory and practice. It is structured to develop a concise framework inter-relating the major business disciplines and a comprehensive perspective to organize additional study in management. Practical applications of the manager’s role in planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling are demonstrated and explored.

 

Objectives:

·         To give a broad picture about management functions and changing forces in its environment.

·         To enable students acquire basic skills for planning and decision making.

·         To let students gain organizational structure analysis and design skills.

·         To demonstrate human core of management, emphasizing entrepreneurship, leadership, teamwork, communication and human resource management dimensions.

·         To exhibit managerial control concept.

3.       Organization and management in manufacturing and service business (1 week)

4.       Organizational resources: people and other (1 week)

5.       Technology and operations (1 week)

6.       Organizational processes (decision-making, planning, communication, leadership, controlling) (5 weeks)

7.       Organizational change and innovation (2 weeks)

8.       Managing in an E-Business world (2/3 weeks)

9.       The role of the industrial engineer in management (2/3 weeks)

10.    Management ethics (2/3 weeks)

Business Simulation games, web-based assignments.
