Probability distributions, one and two sample estimation, one and two sample tests of hypotheses.
Method for Assessing Student Knowledge of Prerequisite Topics:
A prerequisite exam will be given covering prerequisite topics in the first two weeks.
Goals:
The course aims to introduce the student the concepts of quality and to the importance of quality in manufacturing and service industries. Students should be able to understand contemporary methods and procedures used to attain quality.
Objectives:
· To give a broad picture of quality system approach.
· To enable students analyze and become intelligent users of statistical quality control.
· To enable students to use different quality planning and control tools which could efficiently be used to solve industrial and manufacturing problems.
· To help students to understand the role of managerial and human issues in the design, planning and improvement of quality.
· To introduce students to total quality management and ISO standards.
Topics:
1. Fundamentals of quality management system and related subsystems (1 week)
2. The importance of quality as it relates to cost, performance measures and productivity in manufacturing and service systems (2 weeks)
3. The role and basic use of control charts for attributes and variables (3 weeks)
4. Process capability analysis and its usage in decision making (1 week)
5. Product acceptance and acceptance sampling plans (2 weeks)
