Goals:

The course aims to give the students an understanding of the social and technical aspects of the use of information technology in organizations. Different application areas for both organizations and individuals are presented and discussed: IT infrastructure, databases, data mining and knowledge discovery in databases, internet technologies and standards, e-commerce, supply chain management in the context of information systems integration. The course also covers ethics, impacts of IT in the context of implementation.

 

Objectives:

·         To have an understanding of the changing role of information technology in the modern enterprise.

·         To have a sense of the management function as it is increasingly altered by more sophisticated and powerful IT resources.

·         To have an understanding of the increasing importance of IT in obtaining and maintaining competitive advantage.

·         To have a clearer notion of the increasing acceleration rate of development of IT resources and the increasing difficulty in deploying these critical assets into the various functions of the enterprise.

·         To have an appreciation of the secondary effects of widespread IT deployment, e.g., increasing global competition and access to specialized resources such as labor.

·         To have a better understanding of systems development process including software development.

·         To understand the strategic roles elevated by information technologies as well as legal, social and ethical aspects of Internet in relation to customers, corporations and countries.
