Goals:

This course aims to develop a basic understanding of the profession of Industrial Engineering. It aims to introduce industrial engineering problems, tools and subject areas through a series of case studies and class discussions.

 

Objectives:

·         To provide students with insight into the nature of Industrial Engineering in an overall sense.

·         To help students understand systems approach and problem solving.

·         To help students gain experience working in teams.

·         To help students develop communication skills through written and oral reports.

 

Topics:

1.        The role of and need for industrial engineering in business and management decisions (1 week)

2.       Industrial engineering problem types (7 weeks)

3.       Introduction to IE models and tools (mainly work and method study) (4 weeks)

4.       Site visits (2 weeks)

 

Computer Usage:

·         To prepare written reports and oral presentations.

·         To access to obtain assignments and solutions on the web.
